Working at Ione Elementary as an ELOP Aide, Nicole was looking for a way to better her qualifications and continue working with young children in her community. She saw a message from the school district about Amador College Connect’s K16 ECE Pathway and jumped right in. “The biggest challenge for me was taking the first step,” Nicole said. “I was nervous and unsure of the process, but thanks to the welcoming and supportive staff, I was at ease.” Nicole felt like college wasn’t for her, especially with juggling work and being a mother. Starting college was one of Nicole’s biggest feats, and now she’s taking more ECE classes on her own that pique her interest and help her further her work experience. “There was a time when I didn’t believe college was even an option for me. Having children at a young age and returning to the workforce made higher education feel out of reach,” Nicole said. “However, this program has shown me otherwise.” Nicole said Amador College Connect staff helped her exceed her own expectations and has given her a newfound confidence in herself and her abilities. “Looking ahead, my goal is to continue taking ECE courses and work toward higher-level permits. I’m eager to apply everything I’ve learned in the classroom setting, not only to benefit the children in my care but also to support my coworkers and anyone with a passion for working with young children,” Nicole said. “I am committed to growing professionally and to encouraging others to join this incredible program.” Since day one, Nicole has been a very active member of the ECE community at Ione Elementary and encouraged her fellow coworkers to join the program in its second year. Her advice to her fellow students, coworkers and others seeking a career in ECE is one everyone should hear “What sets this program apart is that there’s truly nothing to lose and everything to gain. The friendly staff, ongoing support, accessible structure, and meaningful incentives make it an exceptional opportunity for anyone interested in early childhood education. My advice to others: If I can do it, you can too. The staff is there every step of the way to guide and support you. You won’t regret taking that first step.”
