Juliana walked into the doors of Amador College Connect overwhelmed as a newcomer to the county. She had big dreams of working for Child Protective Services but had no idea how to start. She was frustrated with the coursework, the financial aid process and didn’t know what to do. She said Amador College Connect’s team welcomed her with open arms, showing her a path forward that made sense and allowed her to achieve her goals. “The best part about taking classes at Amador College Connect is that their patience and hospitality always made me feel comfortable and not alone,” Juliana said. She enrolled in the MHSA Program through Coastline College, taking all required classes and completing the internship hours. Her favorite class was Intervention Theory and Strategy. The class helped her navigate real life mental health crises that are common in the field. She learned how to respond with empathy while maintaining healthy boundaries. She also enjoyed the group sessions, known as MHSA Cohorts, which are hosted by Amador College Connect. Juliana completed internship hours, being placed at Nexus Youth and Family Services. After completing the program, Nexus offered Juliana a full-time position. She works daily doing what she loves: supporting children and families. Juliana is a single mother who started this journey while working full time at a deli and caring for her child. “The sky is the limit,” Juliana said. “Trust the process and never give up, progress over perfection,” she said. “You don’t get what you wish for. You get what you work for.”
