Jose Cardona, K16 Computer Science Pathway
It’s no surprise Jose is one of the most lighthearted, funny students to be around on a Thursday night lab session at Amador College Connect. Jose quickly became a friend of everyone in the first year of K16 Computer Science programs. “Being in the computer science program has been a great experience. I’ve learned many new things and gained a deeper understanding of how technology is advancing,” Jose said. “I achieved many successes, including learning around cybersecurity and other essential topics that are fascinating to explore.” Jose was not just a K16 student through Columbia College in Sonora, but he also completed general education classes through Coastline Community College. “The best part of my college career so far has been the numerous opportunities to gain knowledge,” Jose said. “I was doing two colleges, Columbia and Coastline, and it was a hassle for me sometimes trying to plan and coordinate, but I believe it was worth it.” One of Jose’s biggest feats was being a first-generation college student. “I’m a first-generation college student. No one in my family has gone to college,” Jose said. Jose said this success wouldn’t be possible without Amador College Connect. “My friend introduced me to College Connect which helped me become more motivated to get more involved in college and apply for scholarships. I feel glad and lucky to be in the spot I am today, thanks to College Connect,” he said. “You need to remember that everyone starts somewhere, and if you have the motivation and hunger for knowledge, and give it your all, you’ll get there with a little hard work and accomplish your dreams and goals.”
