Amador College Connect is proud to host one of our Human Services Scholarship students, Amy Stuart, for an MHSA-funded internship! Amy grew up in Volcano and still lives there, just down the street from her childhood home. Of learning about the scholarship program, she says, “after having a rough start to my adult life with a couple bad relationships, I found out about the MHSA scholarship program from a friend and decided to give it a try.” Amy was accepted into the Human Services Scholarship in December 2019, and began taking classes at Coastline College for a Certificate in Human Services in spring semester 2020. She has completed six classes in just two semesters. Through her internship and beyond, Amy hopes to empower women in her community to achieve their academic, career, and personal goals no matter the obstacles they face. “I was very excited for the opportunity to intern with Amador College Connect. They have helped me achieve my goal of going to school, even when I was so hesitant, considering it had been 14 years since I had done any type of schooling. I am excited to be able to give back and help others who are looking to go back to school. I want to empower women who have been in my shoes and gotten out of bad situations, and show other single moms that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.” - Amy Stuart
